The Injuries (Journalistic Blog 4)

When I was ran over, all doctors, nurses, emts', were very nervous about what kind of life I was going to be living after seeing myself ran over.
They were thinking the worst, probably a skul fracture, possible memory damage, having plastic surgery,  living a life as a vegetable with no brain activity, no future worth living.
But after that first night in the ICU, and going through surgery they did all possible tests and came with the results of little damage for long term effect.
I had a laceration to my head with stitches and staples, a laceration to my eyebrow also with stiches and staples, same for my nose that was split open, and cuts and bruises over my body.  Not a single broken bone or even brain damage.
Everyone around me was in complete shock and in awe.  I was basically the luckiest girl that night.

From the Parents viewpoint (Journalistic Blog 3)

Brent and Kathy Buschkoetter had an experience that no parent wants to go through with a child.  There daughter, 18 then was in a drinking and driving incident where a girl who was drinking left a party their daughter was attending and ran her over with her car while the daughter was on her cell phone on the side of the road.
Kathy the mother of the daughter, says, "My daughter was definately looked over by a guardian angel that night and were so lucky to still have her here with us today."
Brent the father of the daughter, says, "I've had to deal with my brother dying in a drunk driving incident 28 years ago and the night we got that phone call saying our daughter was in critical condition because of a drunk driver, it instinatly brought back memories of the night my brother died.  It was the worst phone call I have ever received."
Now after two years since the accident both parents say, "Janel, our daughter, is a healthy 21 year old just dealing with normal every day things any one her age does and we couldn't be more blessed with the way things turned out after her almost death experience."

Aftermath (Journalistic Blog)

When a dramatic accident happens to yourself, especially one that was involved with drinking and driving, you tend to look on the positive side of things if you've survived it.
After my accident happened to myself, I had a lot of things happening in that month when I was recovering.  I was getting ready to start school at USI and I was still in a lot of pain to be on my own away at college.
I did get to make it to school on time and start my year fresh with my wounds almost healed, but still in pain.  I lived with friends from back home to help support me, and that really helped me alot getting through my first year at school.
There were hard times through out that year but I made it through and I'm alot stronger for it.
After two years, looking back at that horrible nightmare I went through I'm glad that I overcomed it and I'm still at USI never happier.

Drunk Driving Statistics (infograph)

The Story of August 7th, 2008

Drinking and Driving

A few years ago my life completely changed after an accident I was in.  I was ran over by a girl who was attending a party I was also at too.  Everyone there was drinking too.  No permenant damage was done that would effect me in the future for example my injuries I had.
Now just a few years later, I couldn't image my life with having to deal with that accident.  I've grown as a woman and appreciate life the way I should be.
The greatest lesson I learned with this experience was DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE, and forgiving people no matter how much they could have affected your life.

Drinking and driving has its effects.
